Saskatchewan-born Buffy Sainte-Marie has taken home Canada's top music award.
It was announced Monday night in Toronto that the internationally renowned singer, born on the Piapot Cree Nation, had won the Polaris Music Prize for her album "Power in the Blood."
"Well I’m sure surprised,” Sainte-Marie, said in a release. "I’m very very grateful. I’ll use some of the money to upgrade my studio."
